ABOUT PARRISH MUSIC
Parrish Music was founded in 2007 as a local music resource for Viroqua, Wisconsin. We expanded to our current space on Main Street in 2009 and have since become a regional resource for hard to find and unusual acoustic instruments, books and accessories. We also offer group and private instruction for guitar, banjo, ukulele, mandolin, flute, and voice.
Now there’s a store in Western Wisconsin where you can try out all those instruments you’ve only heard about, such as an oud, tanpura, doumbek or harmonium.
We have perhaps the largest ukulele inventory in the Midwest, along with a variety of unusual flutes from around the world.
You will also find a great selection of gift items, musical and otherwise, sourced globally. We feature fair trade goods from Africa, India, South America, and many other locales. Something for everyone.
We promote and present musical performances, recitals and workshops with guest musicians and students.
Ted has been a professional musician for over 30 years. Primarily a blues guitarist, he has led numerous blues ensembles including the Bucktown Barbeque Boys, an acoustic jug band that played regularly at Buddy Guy’s Legends in Chicago for 10 years and the Bad Axe Blues Band right here in the Driftless region. He also plays slack key guitar and ukulele with Lanialoha Lee in the Hawaiian band Ku’pono. Ted currently plays with Catherine in an acoustic setting around the area. Together they record and perform original music using many instruments. Ted taught for many years at Chicago’s venerable Old Town School of Folk Music, and managed the Different Strummer music store for 15 years. Ted manages Parrish Music and teaches guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, and ukulele.
Catherine is a professional musician, with a degree in voice and music education from the University of Illinois and advanced studies in North Indian flute and voice. She helped develop the Wiggleworms music program at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, and later created her own successful Junior Jubilee music program for small children. Catherine was a key member of the jazz fusion group Mosaic, and has since sang and played flute and guitar on four of her own recordings, recordings by Ella Jenkins, and others. She currently writes, records, and performs original music with Ted. Catherine is the visionary of Parrish Music, and teaches voice, guitar, ukulele, and flute.
