Beginning Guitar Class Start on the guitar! We have beginning guitar classes for the younger set (ages 8 to 14) and for teens and adults. Guitar classes are our most popular (with the ukulele poised, however, for a takeover) classes and we teach all levels. If you have an interest, please contact Ted at the store for class days and times, or for more information. We're putting together our schedule now for classes starting after Labor Day. Rental guitars are available, as are private lessons.
Ukulele Class Do you have an ukulele sitting in the corner, or always wanted to play the ukulele but didn’t want to admit it, or maybe you are just one of those wacky people who should be playing the ukulele (maybe you are from a carny family, or raised by wolves, or used to play bassoon).
Now you can join an all new ukulele class this fall for people just like you. We'll meet one night a week for about 45 minutes, learn some songs and techniques for the ukulele, sing our little hearts out and enjoy each others' company. Down the road we'll get out there and play some songs in public, for those who lean towards exhibitionism.
The ukulele is easy and fun to play, and there is currently a huge ukulele craze sweeping the nation. Be a part of pop culture! Learn the ukulele!
Class will be geared towards the adult beginner (but open to all ages), starting with basics. The materials are layered, so intermediate and above players will be able to learn side by side with beginners. We will learn contemporary pop songs that use the ukulele, famous songs from the history of the ukulele, tin pan alley, heavy metal, Hawaiian songs, and whatever else may surface. Ted has been playing ukulele professionally for 15 years (in the Hawaiian band Kupono in Chicago for 10) and guarantees that you too can be a ukulele star. Whatever that means. Class will be on Tuesday nights, and the cost is a reasonable $10 per class.
Flute Club is led by Catherine Parrish, and brings together fellow flute enthusiasts for an educational and fun group. Dust off the flute you played in school and join us for a 45 minute class. This is a good way to get back into playing as we’ll focus on duets, trios and quartets playing classical, Celtic and jazz.
Electric Rock Band this class meets on Monday afternoons after school. Open to kids ages 11 to 14 (more or less), we put together a band or two, choose songs, practice practice practice and at the end of session put on a show! This class has been great fun and has helped to launch the careers of such famous rock bands as A.D.O. and the Rolling Stones. We'll have guitarists, bassists, keyboardists, drumists, singerists, and otherists in a given band. If your young rocker is interested, please give me a call to discuss - especially if they have not been in a band before. Bands are usually 5 - 6 members, we meet for 45 minutes weekly, and make a fair amount of noise while learning a lot about music and listening and getting along all while being creative. Rock on!
